      It's a bit clunky compared to other contact sensors, but it does connect directly to wifi, nu gateway required as in smaller RF sensors. The larger size also needs to accomodate 2 AAA batteries, which is also convenient. It monitors two states, it distinguishes between being closed and being open. I have setup scenes to switch my attic lights on as long as the attic door is in open state and switch them off whenever I close the attic door. Bought mine on sale for about 7 USD, I hope this helps you decide when to buy yours.
